Imprint varies; subtitle fluctuates
Numbering begins with v. 6, in continuation of The Genleman's magazine, or, Monthly intelligencer, which appeared in yearly vols. 1731-1735
Vols. 6-103 (Jan. 1736-June 1833) are numbered consecutively. Between 1834 and 1876 several new series appeared, each with their own individual numbering sequences; these were later incorporated into the main sequence when the publishers reverted to the former consecutive numbering, starting with vol. 240 for 1877. The correct number would have been 242; this error was later rectified by the omission of vols. 247 and 248 from the sequence
Volumes for 1908-1922 are token registration issues only, consisting of 4 pages each
